• About Me & My Crafts •

Hi there, my name is Brittany. I am so excited to have you here! Midgaarb is my small shop, solely run and operated by me: A passionate seamstress, designer, photographer and plant witch. Bringing you Organic and Wildcrafted herbal offerings and custom, handmade historical Pagan garb. Everything I make is infused with pagan pride and the desire to honor and uphold Mother Earth and the handmade authentic traditions that honored her in generations past. My passion and connection with the Earth is woven into all of my crafts, through the use of Earth-based, natural fabrications and working with local and ancestral plant allies.
I have an endless need to create, experiment and discover! I'm very grateful to have this career where I can embrace it all while bringing for reciprocal healing. My desire in my craft is to uphold my families fading traditions & keep them alive for us American Europeans. As a European herbalist living on sacred Native American land, I also have endless respect for the land I get to call home and harvest my medicines from. In my offerings utilizing wild plants, I focus on restorative and regenerative wildcrafting practices. I do my best to steward the land and honor the homeland of Native Indigenous People's. Their stories are woven into my creations. The purpose is to pay reparations and respect to them, which is of high importance to me, my spirit and my craft.
My home is located in the misty, mossy forests of the Pacific Northwest - in Northwest Oregon, where I bring all my creations to life. The energy that constantly surrounds me, living in this incredibly lush region with the elements and the plants is deeply channeled into all my work. I fully believe in living sustainably and ethically; the lifestyle of my beliefs, & I do so to the best of my ability.
My heart sings when I work with natural fibers ~ sewing, photography, herbalism, nature, music, writing, learning, European history, folklore & community connection.

ABOUT MY HERBAL CRAFT & OFFERINGS

From the moment I could walk my Grandfather had me tending to his garden and showing me how to use plants as medicine through recipes passed down through generations from the homeland. He still calls to remind me to keep a bay leaf under my pillow and 3 cloves in my pocket at all times. He is a true Witch in his own right and I never doubted where my passions for nature's myth & magic came from.

I am grateful I grew up living closely with plant allies, which brought me into more serious herbalism studies over 10+ years. I've had the great privilege of studying under various elders and graduating from 3 different multi-year herbal programs. I have had various health problems in my teens and many bad reactions through western pharmaceuticals. This is part of what brought me to taking my health into my own hands and working to heal myself with plant medicines and more natural methods in my early 20's. The transformation of my health deeply inspired me to pass that onto others.

I moved to Oregon simply because I wanted to be surrounded by so much incredible wilderness and biodiversity, and that is when I joined local schooling here in the Northwest to learn how to utilize and tend to these beautiful wild spaces. Hands on schooling and working directly under Western Elders has definitely brought my studies to a deeply intentional level, allowing me to fully connect the mind-body-soul healing energies and properties of plants and organ function. I've always been drawn to wildcrafting, medicine making and harvesting along with the celestial energies and moon phases, which is deeply woven into my seasonal small batch offerings.

I am so grateful to live in such an abundant beautiful part of the world, growing herbs in the temperate rainforest where everything thrives & harvesting in the wild subalpine mountains. Honoring the Earth, ancestors and Mothers by utilizing her powers, sharing & supporting the healing journey's of others. All of the plant material I work with is either locally Wildcrafted by myself, from clean wild spaces, homegrown or sourced from local certified organic PNW growers. I use the highest quality organic menstruums like local Raw mountain honey, Raw organic vinegars and Certified Organic NON-gmo gluten free alcohol from Organic Alcohol Company here in Oregon. Everything I make is essential oil free, chemical free and preservative free. Please be aware of allergies and know that I am not a healthcare professional, and my statements are not approved by the FDA. Don't hesitate to ask me questions about my offerings!

ABOUT MY SEWING & DESIGNING GARB
All of my garments are infused with loving energy and inspiration to keep the old ways alive. My very first love in this lifetime is sewing, which I first learned from my aunts, grandmother & great grandmother. I am 33 & have been sewing for over 27 year. I am a professionally trained seamstress with a BFA in Fashion Design from Pratt Institute with advanced training from both Parsons School of Design and Fashion Institute of Technology. I had the privilege of learning in one of the fashion capitals of the world. All items are made by myself from start to finish and I create all of my patterns from scratch as well. All garb designs and patterns are created by me, through my training and based off of my extensive research of pre-Christian archeological findings. Utilizing authentic, natural materials such as 100% European linen, wool and leather in a vast variety of handpicked colors and trims.
I am a perfectionist by nature; paying special attention to aesthetics and detail, making Midgaarb ideal for reenactment and ceremonial purposes. My garb is also great for Renaissance and Celtic faires, LARP, SCA and similar events. Being that all my items are made from authentic materials they can also be worn by anyone who has a desire to engage in other forms of living history, likes to add a historical flare to their modern outfits or just enjoys wearing high quality, natural handmade pieces! Linen is so versatile and the silhouettes I create are so versatile, they can be easily mix and matched with any aesthetic and style, whether in reenactment or modern life.
ABOUT MY PHOTOGRAPHY
I am the photographer behind all of my photos, and soon I will be selling prints allowing you to enjoy my work in your home, so check back on that! I minored in photography at Pratt Institute and have been taking professional photos since I was 13 years old, when I was gifted my first film camera. Upon receiving it, I was immediately obsessed with capturing sacred moments in nature. I feel photography was one of the first ways I became truly aware of the incredible wonders of the Earth and its creatures.
I not only enjoy crafting what I wear, the herbal offerings I use to heal myself, but my very favorite thing might be when it comes to taking my photos and I can see the end result all come together. It feels like a deeply sacred ritual. I live in an absolutely gorgeous region, and interacting with the elements here, the wild rain and endless fog, capturing these precious fleeting moments of nature is so fulfilling for me. I am so excited to share them more tangibly with you.
